Flat Washers are put under the nut or head of a Bolt during fastening to distribute the pressure over a wider area and provide a flat smooth fastening surface which minimizes the possibility of loosening over time. Flat washers are also used as spacers in common Nut and Bolt assemblies.
These washers have a smaller outside diameter and a thinner gauge than USS Washers. They are manufactured under the Society of Automotive Engineers specifications.
